Christmas in Lucerne and Zurich: markets and lights

A Christmas day in two cities: the Lucerne market with the region’s largest Advent wreath, the Chapel Bridge, and Zurich at nightfall, with the Singing Christmas Tree and the Bahnhofstrasse lights. 3 to 21 December, car and guide just for you.

The day

1. Hotel pick-up in Zurich at 9.30am (Lucerne is about fifty minutes away)
2. Franziskanerplatz, in Lucerne, as it opens at 11am: the Advent wreath of more than three metres above the fountain, the wooden stalls and the first mulled wine of the day
3. Lucerne’s old town: the smaller markets of the Weinmarkt and the Kapellplatz and the Chapel Bridge over the Reuss, in daylight, for the photographs
4. Lunch in Lucerne’s old town, recommended and booked by us
5. Bellevue Noël, the market in front of the Zurich Opera House: free time for everyone to eat what they like at the stalls: raclette, grilled sausage, roasted chestnuts, mulled wine
6. The Singing Christmas Tree, on the Werdmühleplatz: choirs on a stage shaped like a Christmas tree. We arrive for the calmest performance: Monday to Friday at 5.30pm, Saturday and Sunday at 3.30pm
7. The Bahnhofstrasse lit by Lucy, more than eleven thousand crystals of light, as far as the covered market at the main station
8. Back at your hotel around 7.30pm
