Half a day in Switzerland at its most traditional: the Stein show dairy during Appenzeller cheese production, and the village of Appenzell, with its painted façades and the square where people still vote by show of hands. Car and guide from Zurich.
The day
- Hotel pick-up at 9am (the dairy is an hour from Zurich)
- Appenzeller Schaukäserei, in Stein, with the exhibition at your own pace: the milk in the copper vats, the cellar where the wheels mature, and the tasting, from mild to extra. We arrive in the morning on purpose, because the cheese is made until 3pm
- An hour there is enough: the shop, cheese to take home, and the herb blend you mix and take with you
- Appenzell, ten minutes away: the Hauptgasse and its hand-painted façades, the wrought-iron signs, and the Landsgemeindeplatz, where on the last Sunday in April the citizens still vote the canton's laws by raising their hands
- Time for lunch, a coffee or a regional speciality, depending on the rhythm of the group
- Back to the hotel
